As a part of the work at Quad City Local Ten, I am going to be doing a series called Local Spotlight. This will be articles which highlight local entrepreneurs and their businesses. My desire in these articles is to let our local entrepreneurs gain exposure and for the community to know where to go to support these local business owners.
In this first installment of the Local Spotlight, I am introducing Melissa Gesing and her work with Send Out Cards.
According to Melissa, Send Out Cards is an online greeting card company founded in 2005 that makes it easier to act on your “promptings.” Melissa says, “Whether it is for business or personal use, the online system makes it easier than ever to remember birthdays, thank yous, and to just say hello to that friend that you’ve been meaning to catch up with for awhile.”
Melissa told me that it was the mission to help people stay in touch that was her initial draw to this business. She also said that she was impressed with being able to send a personalized card with her own handwriting, return address, and a first class stamp, all from the convenience of her computer. All this at a price cheaper than going to the store!
“I simply send cards because I like to put smiles on people’s faces,” says Melissa. “I don’t have to give a sales pitch or be a pushy sales person. The product sells itself.”
Melissa told me that she sees the growth in her Send Out Cards business as a way to be able to give more time back to the community both in volunteering more and giving more financially. She is already busy in the areas of politics, the Quad Cities Chamber, and the American Red Cross of the Quad Cities.
I asked Melissa who would benefit from this great product and her response was simply, “everyone.” You see she firmly believes that everyone wants to get that card in the mail letting them know that someone is thinking about them.
