Creating a Commitment to Local Businesses

030

In a world of online business and the explosion of the global economy, what is a local business to do? Is there a way for local entrepreneurs to create a commitment to local businesses? What can a local business do even when being under priced by their online competition?

Creating a commitment to local businesses by the citizens of a locality requires local businesses, their owners, and their employees to:

  1. Commit themselves to a level of customer service that cannot be duplicated by the online competition. Being willing to care for customers as only a friend and neighbor can do will cause your customers/clients to be loyal to your local business even if there is a pricing disparity.
  2. Commit themselves to creating a level of value that makes their customers willing to pay a little more to be better served. It takes a willingness on the part of a local business to use their proximity to their clients/customers to create the kind of value that no business outside the local community can offer.
  3. Commit themselves to create a business culture that makes the betterment of the community a part of their business life. Online companies along with large multinational companies may be able to “sponsor” charitable activities, but neighbors helping neighbors always have the advantage.

When local business owners make their businesses stand out in customer service, creating unique value, and taking a personal interest in their communities, they will create a commitment that will make their customers/clients loyal to them above those they might find online!

What about you and your business? What are you doing to gain a commitment from your local clients/customers?
