Business Growth – Local and Organic

DSC_1679

You know it wasn’t that many years ago that businesses growth occurred, in most businesses locally and organically. What I mean by this is that when a business opened its doors, generally its first customers were those people/companies from the local market who needed their products/services and who then passed on the news of these great products/services along with the care in which they were delivered to other friends and associates that needed the same for themselves.

There were meetings where you discussed what you had to sell and why it was important for your clients to choose you above your competitors. You saw the “white’s of their eyes” and they saw yours as well. Communication took the form of conversation. Families, activities, and notable events were also topics covered in these “business conversations.” Customers meant something to you and you meant something to them as well.

Now days, we talk to each other in 140 character statements. We text and email everyone. We have all the conveniences of modern technologies and yet find ourselves too busy to meet someone for coffee and conversation. Business is often built without even knowing the face of the one you are doing business with. Forget the family, activities, and life events. They only ranks a “congrats” in our short versed world.

I for one am looking back a little and while I do enjoy my electronic toys and the business options they provide, I want to do business locally and organically. It makes me feel good and helps me sleep better at night.

What about you? What do you think is the best way to do business in this modern world?
